The branch is named for Dr. James W. Carlson, a long-serving Fargo physician whose contributions to the community were recognized with the library's dedication in his honor. As the largest Fargo Public Library branch outside the downtown Main Library, it offers an expansive collection, free public computers and Wi-Fi, meeting room access, tax assistance programs, interlibrary loan service, and robust children's and teen programming.
