📖 About The Library Center
The Library Center is the headquarters and largest branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District, the unified city-county system created in 1971 when Springfield's public library (chartered in 1905) merged with the Greene County system. Opened in 1999 to accommodate the district's growth, the 82,000-square-foot building on South Campbell Avenue replaced the district's original Carnegie-era main library as its primary facility. It is the anchor of a ten-branch district that also runs a Mobile Library across Springfield and Greene County. Beyond its large print and electronic collections, The Library Center is the home of the district's Local History & Genealogy Department, backed by the Preserving Ozarks History endowment, making it the region's central resource for family-history and Ozarks-heritage research.
