The Wilder Branch is named after Laura Ingalls Wilder, the beloved children's author behind the Little House books. The library opened at its current 11,000-plus-square-foot home at 7140 E. Seven Mile Road, near Van Dyke, on February 6, 1967. In late 2023 the branch reopened after a renovation that brought new flooring and furniture, updated lighting, and new public computers, along with a new HVAC system. It serves the surrounding northeast-side neighborhood with computer classes, job-readiness programs, and children's enrichment activities, functioning as an important local gathering space. Free WiFi and MobilePrint through the Princh app round out its services. Wilder keeps evening hours on Mondays and Wednesdays.
