📖 About Canton Public Library

Canton Public Library opened October 20, 1980, initially occupying 12,000 square feet on the third floor of the Canton Township Administration Building. A 1986 millage vote funded a move to the library's current purpose-built facility at 1200 S. Canton Center Road, which opened November 13, 1988 at 31,000 square feet; subsequent millage-funded expansions brought the building to its current 53,500 square feet. Today the library serves more than 98,000 residents of Canton Township in western Wayne County — a community that has more than doubled since the building first opened — and is documented as the busiest single-branch public library in Michigan. In 2024 it was named a Top Workplace by the State of Michigan. The collection encompasses over 405,000 items (47% digital), and 730 annual programs draw nearly 23,000 participants.
