Founded on April 4, 1881 — Maynard's first library opened inside the Acton Street School with Mary Reed as librarian — the Maynard Public Library now occupies a beautifully renovated three-story, 24,000-square-foot building at 77 Nason Street, a 1918 Roosevelt Elementary School transformed into a modern public library in 2006. 📖 About Maynard Public Library
The Maynard Public Library was founded April 4, 1881, with its first home inside the Acton Street School. It moved to the Riverside Cooperative Building (1885-1918) and then to a second-floor space in the Naylor Block on Nason Street (1918-1960), before a dedicated library building opened in 1962. The current facility is a $5.7-million transformation of the 1918 Roosevelt Elementary School: the interior was completely rebuilt while the historic brick exterior shell was preserved, yielding 24,000 square feet across three floors when it reopened in July 2006. The library joined the Minuteman Library Network in the summer of 1995. Today it holds roughly 59,000 items, circulates more than 172,000 items per year, and offers museum passes, mobile printing, homebound delivery and a rich set of digital resources to Maynard's 10,000 residents.
