📖 About Brockton Public Library — East Branch

The East Branch at 54 Kingman Street is one of two neighborhood branches of the Brockton Public Library, whose origins date to 1867 when the then-town of North Bridgewater assembled a collection of roughly 600 books purchased from local residents. The East Branch provides free access to fiction and nonfiction titles for adults, teens and children, as well as word processing, internet access and online databases. Staff offer reference assistance, and patrons can place holds on items from the main Kennedy Branch collection for pickup here. Brockton acquired its Andrew Carnegie-funded main library building in 1910 following a personal letter from Mayor William H. Clifford, and the branch system has since extended that legacy of access across the city.
