The Story of the Library in Pearl City

The Pearl City Public Library opened on November 15, 1969 as the Pearl City Regional Library, built to serve the fast-growing Pearl City community and the wider Leeward side of Oʻahu. It grew into one of the largest public libraries on the island. In recent years the State of Hawaii has funded a major improvements, renovation and expansion project — a roughly $35 million effort to modernize the aging building into a multipurpose community space — with a temporary pop-up service keeping the library open to the public during construction.
