📖 About Gunnison Library
The Gunnison Library is the main branch of the Gunnison County Library District, which also runs the Crested Butte Library in a historic 1883 schoolhouse. Library service in Gunnison traces back to 1939, when the American Association of University Women started a small collection of about 2,000 volumes in the basement of Webster Hall; the county formally established a public library in 1965, and for decades the Gunnison branch was known as the Ann Zugelder Library after a local philanthropist. On September 12, 2022, the branch opened a new building at 1 Quartz Street, replacing the longtime Wisconsin Street location with a larger, modern space for the valley. The district is a member of the Marmot Library Network, a Colorado consortium that shares a catalog and e-content, so a Gunnison card reaches far beyond the county's shelves.
