📖 About West Bend Community Memorial Library
The West Bend Community Memorial Library grew from a book collection kept in the back room of Wolfram's Drug Store in the late 1880s. After that early effort closed in 1899, the West Bend Women's Club led the fundraising and petitions that established a tax-supported public library, which opened in 1901 with 730 books on the second floor of the former city hall. The collection later moved to a former schoolhouse on Elm Street before the library settled into its own building on Poplar Street in 1967. A 1990s capital campaign funded a major expansion, and the roughly 62,000-square-foot, two-floor library that residents know today opened in early 2000. Sitting in West Bend's cultural district near the city's museums, it holds well over 175,000 items and belongs to the Monarch Library System, so a single card reaches shared collections across four counties.
