📖 About Bernville Area Community Library

The Bernville Area Community Library traces its roots to the fall of 1993, when a small group of Bernville residents identified the need for a public library and organized a book-and-fund drive to make it happen. The library officially opened on November 11, 1994, in a modest office space along Route 183, staffed entirely by volunteers and open just ten hours a week — serving Bernville Borough and the townships of Jefferson and Penn. In 1997 it joined the Berks County Public Libraries system, and by 1999 had moved into a roomier 3,000-square-foot second-floor space provided by Redner's Markets, complete with dedicated children's, reference, and computer areas and a wheelchair-accessible multipurpose room. Decades of steady improvements followed: an access ramp replaced an elevator in 2010, back-room renovations added permanent shelving and a used-book-sale operation, and in 2020 the library opened a Free Little Library at Boyer's Supermarket. The library celebrated its 30th anniversary in November 2024, and its most recent project converted the former community room into a Teen Space for young adult programming.
