📖 About Palisade Public Library
The Palisade Public Library traces its origins to 1917, when the Women's Club of Palisade decided to grow the school library into a resource open to all residents. Its early home was the H.L. Hunt building on Main Street, where it operated rent-free for thirty years. In 1930, the Village of Palisade formally established a Municipal Library under Nebraska state law, creating the first library board. After two more moves, the collection settled in 1966 into its present home — the historic 1891 Palisade State Bank building at 124 North Main Street, a two-story brick landmark that anchors downtown. Part of the Nebraska Library Commission's Western Library System, the library holds nearly 6,000 items and serves a registered community of about 228 borrowers. It is accredited at the Silver level (2025–2029) by the Nebraska Library Commission and offers free wireless internet plus two public computers. Statewide digital resources through NebraskAccess expand the collection to thousands of databases and e-resources for every Nebraska cardholder.
