📖 About Bozeman Public Library
The Bozeman Public Library serves the City of Bozeman and Gallatin County, tracing its roots to the Young Men's Library Association of 1872 and a tax-supported city library that opened in 1891 above the City Hall and Opera House. A Carnegie library followed in 1903 and served for more than 75 years before the library moved to East Lamme Street in 1981. In November 2006 the library opened its current 53,000-square-foot home on the former Milwaukee Railroad property on East Main Street — funded by a 2001 voter-approved bond — and it became the first municipal building in Montana to earn LEED certification. A $5.6 million renovation completed in 2024, funded entirely through private donations to the Bozeman Library Friends and Foundation, refreshed the interior.
