📖 About Franklin Parish Library

The Franklin Parish Library is the public library of Franklin Parish, a north-central Louisiana community along the Boeuf River between Monroe and Natchez. Its founding story is one of persistent civic effort: community leader Mrs. C. Ramage Adams — later honored as 'the mother of the Franklin Parish Library' — worked for over fifteen years before a Police Jury ordinance on December 3, 1946 set the process in motion, and the library officially opened December 11, 1950, as a Louisiana State Library Demonstration project. Residents voted a tax levy to sustain it before the demonstration year ended, making Franklin Parish Louisiana's 33rd parish-wide library system. The Wisner branch opened February 17, 1951. The main branch has relocated five times, settling in the former Walter's Department Store building in Winnsboro in February 1994; the Learning Center was established in 2007 and the Genealogy & Franklin Parish History Center ('FP Roots') launched in 2014. Today the library participates in Check Out Louisiana, allowing cardholders to reserve free passes to Louisiana's state museums online and check out free day-passes to any Louisiana state park. The library also participates in the Louisiana Library Connection (LLC), providing access to BookFlix, Mango Languages, Mometrix, Coursera/Udemy, HomeworkLouisiana, and the Louisiana Digital Library.
