The Story of the Library in Stillwater

The Stillwater Public Library grew out of the efforts of the Stillwater Woman's Club, which organized a book collection and opened the city's first public library on January 15, 1923, in the former parsonage of the United Brethren Church. Club members sorted and classified the donated books and served as the earliest librarians before the collection was later taken over and supported by the City of Stillwater.

The library has grown from those volunteer beginnings into a modern municipal facility. Today the Stillwater Public Library operates from a building of roughly 54,400 square feet at 1107 S Duck Street, offering print and digital collections, public computers, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages.
