📖 About Demarest Free Public Library

The Demarest Free Public Library is the public library of Demarest, a small borough in the northeastern corner of Bergen County, New Jersey. It traces its origins to 1964, when the Demarest Public Library Association purchased the old Methodist church on Hardenburgh Avenue — a building that had earlier served as a WWI-era YMCA hut from nearby Camp Merritt. The library still operates from that location at 90 Hardenburgh Avenue, giving it an unusually historic home for its collection. As a member of BCCLS (the Bergen County Cooperative Library System), Demarest cardholders can borrow and return materials across dozens of participating libraries and share a very large combined catalog. The library offers eBooks and audiobooks through Libby along with public computers and community programs, and it is open seven days a week during the fall-to-spring season, with late evenings Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and a Sunday afternoon (Sundays are closed in July and August).
