📖 About Boston Free Library
The Town of Boston, set apart from the Town of Eden on April 5, 1817, saw its first library effort in 1939 as a memorial to Dr. Jennings. In 1947 George Stein spearheaded the formation of the Boston Free Library Association, which opened in an old firehouse on Boston Colden Cross Road. By January 1949 the library joined the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library system; in 1955 it moved into a remodeled brick schoolhouse on State Road — the building it still occupies today. Operated under contract with BECPL and led by director Lydia Herren, the Boston Free Library now offers six public internet stations, a 3D printer, a Cricut Maker, a remarkable Library of Things with more than 20 items from telescopes to metal detectors, Chromebook kits for home internet access, and a community meeting room seating 50. Preschool Story Time, Ukulele Club, Mahjong, Lego, and Chess clubs make this small-town branch a genuine community hub for Erie County's rural south towns.
