📖 About Albion Public Library
In 1907 the Albion library board petitioned the Carnegie Foundation for funds to build a permanent home for the town's growing collection. Carnegie granted $6,000, construction began in spring 1908, and the doors opened in December of that year — a building designed by the Eisentraut-Colby-Pottenger Company that has served readers ever since. In March 2019 the Albion Carnegie Library was formally listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making it the sixth property in Boone County to receive that recognition. The library carries the tagline 'an excellent source of information' and operates under the Nebraska Libraries on the Web initiative, giving patrons access to NebraskAccess databases and the library's online catalog. Beyond books, the library runs active youth programming including LEGO Library, Junior STEM Day, and 'Cozy Cuddles' Toddler Time, as well as Wander Nebraska — a statewide program that rewards visiting readers with free books and passport stamps.
