📖 About Claiborne Parish Library
The Claiborne Parish Library traces its roots to the Homer Public Library, a volunteer project of the Women's Department Club that operated out of Homer City Hall with donated books and limited hours. The system's second branch, the Joe W. Webb Memorial Library in Haynesville (established 1951, renamed 1989 in honor of longtime board member Joe W. Webb), expanded service across the parish. The main branch moved to a purpose-built facility on West Main Street in 1987, then in 2013 closed for a comprehensive remodel designed by architectural firm Wayne Coco and Associates; it reopened on July 21, 2014 at 909 Edgewood Drive as a fully modernized library. The branch maintains a resident parish historian on staff, making it a primary resource for Claiborne Parish genealogy and local history. Digital collections include Louisiana Library Connection databases, OverDrive/Libby, hoopla and Tumblebooks for children. Claiborne Parish was established by the Louisiana Legislature on March 13, 1828 and named for Governor William C. C. Claiborne, the state's first territorial and state governor.
