📖 About Perryville Branch — Riverside Regional Library
Perryville, Missouri became the seat of Perry County when the county was organized in 1820 from Ste. Genevieve County, named for Oliver Hazard Perry, the naval hero of the Battle of Lake Erie. Commissioners selected Perryville's central location for the courthouse in 1821, and 53 of the original 99 town lots sold for $1,486.25 to fund the first courthouse. The city incorporated in 1856 and grew with the arrival of the Perryville, Chester & Ste. Genevieve Railroad in 1892 and the Frisco Railroad in 1904. Today the Perryville Branch of Riverside Regional Library is the largest branch outside the Jackson main library, offering full five-day service, children's programming, and the complete suite of Missouri Evergreen digital resources to Perry County residents and beyond.
