The Tenafly Public Library has been a cornerstone of Bergen County community life since the Tenafly Library Society was founded on March 25, 1895, moving to its purpose-built home at 100 Riveredge Road in 1963. The Tenafly Public Library officially became a free public borough library in 1919, when voters approved public funding for what had begun as a private subscription library with 300 books and $1 annual dues in 1910. After decades in a room at Browning Public School and later a building on Washington Street, the library moved on March 11, 1963 to its current address at 100 Riveredge Road. It belongs to the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) — a 77-library network spanning Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties — giving cardholders access to millions of shared items. The Virginia T. Mosley Local History Archive preserves community records and heritage materials for Tenafly and the surrounding region. A rotating art gallery inside the building and multilingual collections in Chinese, Hebrew, and Korean reflect the borough's diverse community.
