📖 About New Milford Public Library

The New Milford Public Library has its roots in 1936, when a PTA committee organized the first library with 75 one-dollar subscriptions, initially housed in the Old Borough Hall on Center Street. The following year it moved to a small 22-by-24-foot, uninsulated building on River Road and Demarest Avenue. A turning point came in 1989 when the Board of Education offered the former Williams School building to the Borough; construction began in June 1990 and the library moved to its current home at 200 Dahlia Avenue in July 1991. As a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS), a network of 78 libraries spanning Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties, a New Milford library card gives residents seamless access to the shared BCCLS catalog and collections across the entire region. The library offers programming for all ages and free digital resources including hoopla.
