Founded in 1922 by the Stuttgart Woman's Club on the Arkansas Grand Prairie, the Arkansas County Library has served rice farmers, hunters, and families across the county for over a century from its current home at 2002 S. Buerkle Street — rebuilt after a 2008 tornado and expanded with a children's wing in 2014.

📖 About Arkansas County Library
The Arkansas County Library, also known as the Stuttgart Public Library, traces its roots to June 1922 when the Stuttgart Woman's Club organized the first library board and the doors opened just two weeks later in a second-floor courthouse room. Over the following century the library moved through four buildings — from the Rhodes building on Main Street to the American Legion hall, then to a purpose-built Fourth & Grand location in 1962 — before settling at its present Buerkle Street facility in 1994. A tornado in May 2008 forced the library to close for months, but after extensive repairs it reopened in February 2009; a dedicated children's wing was completed in May 2014. Stuttgart, seat of Arkansas County, is famous as the 'Rice and Duck Capital of the World,' and the library serves the entire county including the branch communities of Gillett and DeWitt.
