The Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library is the public library of Saint Joseph, Michigan, a city on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in Berrien County. Saint Joseph's first library formed in 1893 inside a local school, and in 1903 the city council pledged annual support, prompting philanthropist Andrew Carnegie to donate $13,000 for a dedicated building that opened November 11, 1904. The library's current home on Market Street came through another act of private generosity: in 1966 Fred C. Palenske donated the building and grounds — the former J. Ogden Wells estate — as a memorial to his wife Maud Preston Palenske, who had died in 1959. The facility was dedicated on September 23, 1966, and expanded again in 1982 with a $175,000 bequest Fred Palenske left at his death in 1970. A 2016 interior renovation updated the building and renamed the auditorium the Felland Auditorium.
