📖 About Spring Lake District Library

Spring Lake Township Board voted on April 2, 1849 — just twelve years after Michigan achieved statehood — to spend $50 establishing a public library in the Township Clerk's home, allocating $25 per year for new books. It is one of the earliest public libraries in Michigan. After decades in donated spaces, the collection moved to a room in Village Hall in 1936 and then to a new Township Hall in 1965 when volumes had grown to 5,400. The Warner Baird Library building opened June 18, 1977, and the current Spring Lake District Library building was completed in April 2003. The library now serves Spring Lake Village, Spring Lake Township, and Crockery Township with a full digital collection, technology tutoring appointments, meeting room reservations, and research databases including Consumer Reports and Value Line.
