📖 About Delafield Public Library

What started in 1904 as an informal shelf of donated books overseen by postmistress Anne Townsend Whitney became a formally chartered free library in 1907, when the town of Delafield appointed an unpaid librarian and a library board. After several relocations — including a stint in a former church on Wells Street, dedicated by Wisconsin Governor Warren Knowles in 1968 — the library settled permanently at 500 Genesee Street in 1960 and opened a landmark $5.2 million building on the same site in 2010. Today the collection spans nearly 80,000 items across 11,000 square feet. As a member of the Bridges Library System (Waukesha & Jefferson Counties), cardholders enjoy access to shared collections at member libraries throughout the two-county region. The library lends not just books but also mobile maker kits, electronics, outdoor gear, and passes to local attractions — true to its motto: "Keeping you connected."
