📖 About Jefferson County Library

The Jefferson County Rural Library District was established by voter approval on November 7, 1978, with the Board of Trustees holding its first meeting in April 1979. Early operations ran from a small room in the Port Townsend Library, then a portable classroom on the Chimacum School Campus, before moving to a rented Port Hadlock facility. The permanent building at 620 Cedar Avenue was dedicated in April 1985, funded through timber revenues and local property taxes. Voters approved a one-year excess levy in 1991 to expand the facility to 11,000 sq ft, with a January 1992 dedication; a 2012–2013 remodel added 340 sq ft and a bookmobile garage supported by the East Jefferson Rotary Club. Today the library's mission — 'Feeding Minds. Fueling Dreams.' — drives programming for early learners through adults, digital literacy support, 3D printing, and a bookmobile serving the east county.
