Palmer, Alaska was established in 1935 under President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal when 203 Midwestern farm families traveled north to colonize the fertile Matanuska Valley. South Valley Way — the address of today's library — runs through the heart of the original colony townsite, laid out that same year. Palmer Public Library is operated by the City of Palmer and serves as a member of the Matanuska-Susitna Library Network (MSLN), whose shared catalog at anch.ent.sirsi.net integrates holdings across the region.
