📖 About Central Skagit Library
Library service in Sedro-Woolley began informally when a local druggist let residents trade books across his counter. In 1913 the community applied to the Carnegie Foundation for funds, and in 1914 the city council established the Sedro-Woolley Library Association. A handsome Carnegie Library — donated land included — opened at Third and Nelson Street in October 1915 with Miss Minna Dorsey as librarian. The Carnegie building was demolished in 1962 when the school district acquired the land; a new facility on Ball Street opened the same year, aided by high school students, Girl Scouts, and Campfire Girls who moved the collections by hand. A state grant and matching city funds expanded that building in 1989. In July 2017 the City of Sedro-Woolley entered a partnership with the newly formed Central Skagit Library District, and in February 2018 the old Sedro-Woolley Public Library closed; Central Skagit opened in its place the following week. The district operated from 802 Ball Street until the current light-filled building at 110 West State Street opened to the public in June 2021, replacing over a century of makeshift spaces with a dedicated home for Skagit Valley's northern communities.

Is this the old Sedro-Woolley Public Library or something new?
It is the direct successor. The Sedro-Woolley Public Library closed February 15, 2018 when the city partnered with the new Central Skagit Library District. Central Skagit opened at the old Ball Street site just days later and then moved into the current purpose-built building at 110 West State Street in June 2021, keeping all the same community library services under a new district name.
