📖 About Campbell Branch
The Campbell Branch is named in honor of James Valentine Campbell, the first president of Detroit's Library Commission. The branch first opened in 1907 in a rented storefront near West Jefferson before settling into service on the near-southwest side, where it remains one of two Detroit Public Library locations in Southwest Detroit. Today it anchors a busy stretch of West Vernor Highway, a short walk from the 84-acre Patton Park. Like the rest of the DPL system, Campbell offers free public computers, WiFi, and mobile printing through the Princh app, letting patrons send jobs from a phone, laptop, or tablet. The branch takes part in the library's annual summer reading program and keeps evening hours on Mondays and Wednesdays to reach working families.
