📖 About Redford Branch

The Redford Branch traces its roots to an original stone library that opened November 22, 1926, at 21511 West McNichols, designed by architects Marcus R. Burrowes and Frank Eurich, Jr. As the surrounding neighborhood grew, the Detroit Public Library replaced it with a much larger facility. The current building, just across Grand River from the original branch, opened February 16, 1981 on the former site of Detroit's old Receiving Hospital. At more than 20,000 square feet, it houses separate children's and adult areas along with community meeting rooms. Today the branch serves far-northwest Detroit's Old Redford community with reading programs and mobile printing.
