📖 About Rochambeau Library
Rochambeau Library began in 1915 as the Elodie Farnum Memorial Library, a children's collection started by the Monday Morning Musical Club and named for a gifted young violinist; it was originally housed in the Rochambeau School. In 1930 the collection passed to Providence Public Library, which built the current Rochambeau Branch at the corner of Hope Street and Langham Road in a Georgian Colonial design by the firm Clark & Howe, matching the other PPL branches of the era. An early-2000s renovation costing about $5.1 million roughly doubled the building's size, with the Friends of Rochambeau contributing nearly $800,000; the branch is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today Rochambeau is one of nine neighborhood locations run by Community Libraries of Providence (CLPVD), and as a member of Ocean State Libraries (OSL) a single card borrows across the statewide catalog.
