📖 About Lynchburg Public Library
Lynchburg Public Library is the free public library system of the City of Lynchburg, Virginia, an independent city in the foothills of the Blue Ridge along the James River. Its 35,000-square-foot Main Library at 2315 Memorial Avenue occupies a building erected in 1959 as a Sears & Roebuck store and converted to a library in 1985. That flagship building closed to the public after December 27, 2025 for a long-overdue renovation addressing flooding, aging systems and accessibility; it is scheduled to reopen in 2027 with study rooms, a media lab, a public makerspace with 3D printers and laser cutters, and dedicated teen space. While the Main Library is closed, the system keeps Lynchburg served through the Downtown Branch at 216 12th Street, temporary Library Hubs at the Miller Center (301 Grove Street), and the "Books on the Move" bookmobile. A Lynchburg card also borrows through reciprocal agreements with the neighboring Bedford and Campbell County systems.
