📖 About J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library
The J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library has served Appomattox County since 1936, when philanthropist and Virginia House of Delegates member David K. Bruce funded a circulating collection across fifteen county loan stations. A dedicated building opened on April 12, 1940, and the library has grown into the county's central hub for reading, learning, and community connection. Situated on Main Street in the historic town of Appomattox — just three miles from Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, where the Civil War's final major campaign concluded in April 1865 — the library holds a collection of more than 52,000 volumes and circulates over 67,000 items annually. In 2022 the Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously to make the Jamerson Memorial Library fine-free, eliminating all overdue fines to ensure open and inclusive access. Today it offers books, films, digital resources, genealogy tools, 24-hour outdoor Wi-Fi, printing, faxing, and a full calendar of programs for all ages. The library is an independent Appomattox County institution and is not affiliated with the Appomattox Regional Library System of Hopewell, Virginia.
